On Friday, March 2, Rye was hit by the worst flooding since 1972. The timing for the torrential rain combined with the frozen ground, snow melt, and high tide made the banks of the Blind Brook a distant memory. Within a short period of time anything and anyone in the vicinity of the Blind Brook was underwater. Emergency crews from the City responded to nearly 150 calls, 37 specifically for Rye Fire Department.
Among the many rescued was a postal worker from his truck on Mead Place.
The Rye Fire Department would like to thank the citizens of Rye for their patience, calm demeanor, and professionalism during the day's hectic events. Additional thanks go out to the Police Department, Department of Public Works, and Con Edison for their time and effotrs during the flood.
