The peak of the Atlantic Hurricane season is currently underway and the Rye Fire Department wants to know if you are prepared? The peak of the season is from mid-August to late October. However, deadly hurricanes can occur anytime in the hurricane season. Although the northeast United States is not as likely to be hit by a tropical system compared to southern states it can still happen. Look back no more then last year Labor Day weekend when Hurricane Irene moved up the coast causing billions of dollars in damage. Flooding in Rye was wide spread and many were forced from their homes for days.
Residents should be prepared for not just tropical systems but for any coastal storms, as Rye has experienced many over the years. The National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service have tips to prepare for such storms and action you can take to ready yourself and your family. We encourage you to click on the link below and
BE READY! Remember when there is an emergency announcement by the city of Rye or the National Weather Service we will have it posted here and on our twitter account to keep you up to date.
