On Friday evening, July 12th at 7:51pm, The Rye Fire Department and Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS were dispatched to Interstate 95 southbound in the area of the North St overpass (mile marker 12.6) for a two car motor vehicle accident involving a street sweeper. Apparatus were quickly on scene and found the accident to be directly under the Boston Post Road overpass (mile marker 13.7). The driver of the street sweeper was ejected from his vehicle but was able to move to the shoulder. All other occupants were out of the vehicle when RFD apparatus arrived.

Firefighters assisted EMS crews with patient care and provided scene protection. In total, 6 patients were taken to a local hospital by Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS and Harrison EMS Ambulances. Once the cars were removed from the scene, firefighters provided fluid mitigation. Due to the large amount fluids on the roadway, The New York State Thruway Authority Maintenance Division was requested to bring a sander and sweeper to the scene. At approximately 10:30pm, the roadway was clear of debris and fluids, all lanes were opened to traffic and Rye Fire apparatus returned to service.
