On Wednesday September 18, at 10:08 hours, the Rye Fire Department was dispatched 4 Magnolia Pl for a Residential Fire Alarm. Shortly thereafter Car 2424, Engine 191, Engine 192 and Ladder 25 were responding to the scene. The Rye Police Department began to receive multiple 911 calls reporting a fire at that house. While still enroute, Car 2424 requested a 10-75 assignment be dispatched, bringing a Harrison FD Engine, Town of Mamaroneck FD FAST and Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS to the Scene.

When Car 2424 arrived on scene, he confirmed a working structure fire. Car 2424 reported a 2.5 Story wood frame structure with a fire in the attic. Ladder 25 was requested to make its way up the driveway while Engine 191 hit a hydrant on Magnolia Pl. Engine 192 began to make an interior attack using 1 3/4 hand lines while Ladder 25 began to position to the roof. Car 2424 requested Harrison’s Tower Ladder 24 to respond with their engine (Engine 10). Interior attack teams had difficulty containing the fire and were later pulled from the building for safety concerns. Tower Ladder 24 made its way up the driveway behind Ladder 25 and put its ladder to the roof. Engine 10 Picked up a hydrant on Forest and fed Tower Ladder 24. Car 2424 then request an additional engine and ladder to the scene. Village of Mamaroneck Engine 38 and Tower Ladder 20 were requested to go to the scene. Port Chester Tower Ladder 2 and Purchase Engine 240 were then sent to standby at Rye FD HQ.

When the Village of Mamaroneck units got on scene, they set up on the “D” side of the structure. Battalion 15 reported that all firefighters have exited the building and 3 ladders are operating master streams. Due to the weather conditions, an EMS Rehab unit was requested to help rehabilitate firefighters on scene. The Valhalla Volunteer Ambulance Corps were dispatched to send their rehab unit to the scene. Because firefighters were using thousands of gallons a minute of hydrant water, United Water was also requested to boost the hydrant pressure and send a representative to the scene.

At 11:07 hours, crews were sent back into the structure with attack lines to battle the flames. Crews were able to make good progress with the combination of exterior and interior attacks. The fire was knocked down at approx. 11:40 hours and crews began the process of overhauling. Crews found multiple pockets of fire that were knocked down with hand lines and master streams. Port Chester Engine 63, Purchase Engine 240 and Port Chester Tower Ladder 2 were then requested to the scene with packs and tools to assist with overhaul. Greenwich Engine 1 and West Harrison Tower Ladder 9 were then dispatched to standby at Rye FD HQ.

In the process of fighting the fire, 3 firefighters sustained minor injuries. 1 Firefighter refused medical attention (RMA) and 2 firefighters were transported to local hospitals. Both of whom were released a few hours later. No civilians or pets were injured.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by The Westchester County Department of Emergency Services Cause and Origin Team (Zone 2) and the Rye Police Department.
