One Friday morning, September 11th, The Rye Fire Department was dispatched to a large gas leak in the area of Sonn Drive and Franklin Ave. Upon arrival, Firefighters found a high pressure gas main that had been struck, causing natural gas to free flow from the pipe. Firefighters and Police Officers assisted with evacuating nearby homes and checking for gas readings within several structures. With the help of Con Ed Emergency Crews, Firefighters were able to assist with capping the main and shutting down the line.

Rye Firefighters were on scene for approx. 2 hours. During the duration of the event, Harrison FD was put on standby to cover other calls if needed.
