On Wednesday, October 16th, The Rye Fire Department held it's monthly drill and this month's topic was on Standby Pipe operations. While Rye doesn't have any real "high-rise" buildings, there are still several building in Rye with some type of standpipe system. For firefighters, standpipes serve as hydrants in buildings and give firefighters access to water in large structures where stretching hose may not be feasible or practical.

This drill took place at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla so firefighters could practice skills at their fire tower, which includes a dry Class 1 standpipe system. During the drill, Firefighters reviews the different types of systems and were able to practice flowing water in buildings with standpipes.
