| On Thursday, March 17, at approximately 1400 hours, the City of Rye Police Department, the City of Rye Fire Department and Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS responded to a construction accident located at 1 Read Court. Upon arrival it was discovered that a construction worker was struck by a front end loader.
The construction worker was the operator of the front end loader and exited the machine to inspect the construction area. Upon exiting he moved to the front area of the machine which then rolled forward pinning him against a concrete wall. A second construction worker jumped into the machine and backed it away from the operator who then fell over the concrete wall and down a 9 ft. shaft to a concrete floor.
The construction worker had to be extricated once he was stabilized from the construction shaft. Due to the extent of his injuries and the precarious position he fell to this required the assistance of all three agencies to get him to the ambulance. The operator was transported by Ambulance to Westchester Medical Center. According to Rye Police Department's press release, the construction worker was in critical condition when admitted to the hospital. |
