| Rye Firefighters were prepared for whatever Nemo had in store for Rye. The storm started as a rain/snow mix early on Friday morning before turning over to all snow latter on that morning. During the storm, The Rye Fire Department responded to 4 calls, including a basement fire at the Shenorock Shore Club and a Motor Vehicle Accident on Playland Parkway. Roads became treacherous Friday night after snowfall rates picked up and public works crews were unable to keep up with the storm. A general 10-12 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 35mph were observed around Rye. Luckily, there were no power outages and coastal flooding was minimal.
We'd like to remind residents that city code requires homeowners to shovel out any sidewalks on their property within 24 hours of the end of snowfall. Also, we strongly suggest that homeowners clear snow away from fire hydrants. Clearing snow from around hydrants it is for your safety and the safety of others.
