On Tuesday November 24, 2009 the Volunteers of the Rye Fire Department along with Volunteer members of the Harrison Fire Department performed a drill on an empty house at the corner of Bradford Avenue and Hunt Place, led by Top Rung Associates. The firefighters went through strategies for combating basement fires and were given the opportunity to make entry into a basement scenario in teams. Each team advanced a charged hose line into the basement where there was a road flare placed in one of three rooms. The firefighters proceeded to locate and extinguish the "fire" as they were coached by the instructor from Top Rung. Once through with the basement evolutions, the firefighters were given the chance to simulate entry to a second floor and given strategies to combat fires in an upper floor scenario. Overall the drill gave firefighters a good chance to review and learn important skills associated with engine company operations.
The drill was filmed by a RCTV crew and should be available on public access TV in the coming weeks.
