April 9, 2010

On Thursday night April 8 the Rye Fire Department held its Annual Meeting in George Ballantoni Memorial Hall at Locust Avenue Fire Headquarters. Approximately 70 members were in attendance to hear the annual reports from the Chief and Treasurer and to elect new Chief Officers. Those election results are as follows:

Chief of Department (2421): George Hogben [Poningoe Engine and Hose Co.]
1st Assistant Chief (2422): Anthony Scarfone, Jr. [Poningoe Engine and Hose Co.]
2nd Assistant Chief (2423): Michael Taylor [Poningoe Hook and Ladder Co.]

Chiefs Hogben and Scarfone have both served as Chief Officers before, most recently as Chief of Department and 2nd Assistant Chief, respectively. Chief Taylor is a 19 year member of the Hook and Ladder Company and has served as 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant and Captain in past years.

Before the conclusion of the annual meeting, Chief Hogben recognized outgoing 1st Assistant Chief (and Past Chief of Department) Peter Cotter for his years of service to the department and the community. He received a standing ovation from the membership.

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday April 6, the four companies also held their elections for Line Officers and Wardens. Those results can be found here: http://www.ryefire.com/content/company/
